Of course there is a soul food, southern inspired brunch spot in Williamsburg, Brooklyn; that neighbourhood has everything! Famous for their chicken (and vegetarian chicken) and waffles, Sweet Chick must have a witch doctor on staff because their food cures even the most stubborn hangovers. This place is the definition of #brunchgoals. Seriously, the menu is chock full of delicious southern soul food specialities… Pancakes, Hush Puppies, Shrimp and Grits and of course many versions of Fried Chicken. Plus, their menu shifts gears into an epic dinnertime with creative cocktails and more cozy favourites like mac and cheese, cornmeal crusted catfish and duck and short rib meatloaf. Is your mouth watering yet?
Popular with locals and tourists alike, Sweet Chick also sports a big name investor in the form of rapper Nas, and multiple locations on the East and West Coast. The interior is a bit garage and a bit barn with tons of reclaimed wood and long picnic tables. It’s casual and warm and great for solo or group dining. While the food is king, music is Sweet Chick’s queen. This place has also played host to Mobb Deep’s (RIP) NYE party, Tupac’s restaurant pop-up and Raekwon hosted it’s one year anniversary. The food, and the sound track, have proven to be a winning combination. Without fail, this is the one stop I have to make when back in town.
